Barbara Rumsby
I have over 15 years experience working as a University academic in the UK, lecturing and researching in physical geography (Universities of Sussex & Hull).  My research specialism is fluvial geomorphology, but I have broad interests and experience across geography, earth and environmental science, and archaeology.

Academic qualifications:
  • PhD in Physical Geography (fluvial geomorphology & sedimentology) at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK
  • BSc in Geography at the University of Wales (Aberystwyth), UK
  • Certificate in Archaeology at the University of Hull, UK

Academic Papers
I have extensive experience writing academic papers and technical reports; I have published more than 25 papers, many in high impact journals, which have 1000+ citations (Google Scholar).  

Educational
As a lecturer, I produced electronic/digital course materials to support classes in a range of topics, including: rivers, environmental science, hazards, climatology.

Reviewing & Editing
  • I am a member of the Society for Editors & Proofreaders, and have completed training in Proofreading and Copy-editing.
  • I have peer-reviewed manuscripts for top earth and environmental science journals, and was an Editorial Board member for Transactions of the Institute of British Geographers.
  • I have wide experience editing manuscripts written by non-native English language speakers, especially from researchers in China, Japan and Korea.

PhDs
I supervised seven PhD candidates to successful completion, including two non-native English language speakers, and have been an examiner on 11 theses.
